At 8am we set off from Cusco heading up and over the highlands towards the Sacred Valley of the Incas. We arrive at Pisac on the Urubamba river and visit the colourful Pisac village market. Here you can bargain for some of the many artisan goodies on offer. You can either stay here haggling for longer or head up to Pisac ruins situated high up overlooking the valley. After an hour exploring this magnificent site we head back down and through the valley until we reach the town of Urubamba. Here we take a traditional lunch before heading on to Ollantaytambo town for our tour of the archeological site which hang, high on the valley walls overlooking the town. Ollantaytambo is the gateway to MachuPicchu, where the road ceases and the route must be continued by train. If you have chosen a private service tour then you will board the afternoon train to Aguas Calientes (3.37pm). If you are with shared group then, due to slower travel times, you will board the later, evening train (7.00pm).
On arrival, our guide will visit you at your hotel to brief you about the next day events.
You then have the evening free to relax or investigate some of the many activities available.
Overnight in Aguas Calientes
After breakfast your guide will accompany you for an early bus to the the citadel of Machu Picchu. Our professional guide will slowly show you around the main areas recounting myths and legends passed down over the centuries and explaining about some of the advanced building techniques the Incas used. After your tour you will have plenty of time to look around maybe do some of the other treks which are available in the surrounding mountains.
At about 18:20pm you will board the return train to Ollantaytambo and then a transfer back to Cusco arriving at approximately 22:00pm.
